“People are blown away. I haven’t been 190 pounds since I played football freshman year in college, back in 1992!”

Kirby has always been extremely driven professionally. For the majority of his career, he focused on growing his business, working 12 hour days and traveling over 30 percent of the time. When he sold his business in October 2015, his hectic schedule finally began to slow down. For the first time, he started noticing all of the things that he hadn’t prioritized—namely, himself and his wellness.

Kirby ran into two friends on separate occasions and saw how much healthier and happier they looked. Kirby asked them what had changed, and that’s when he learned about Arivale.

He knew he had to jump in right away.

Kirby joined Arivale with the goal to lose weight, improve his diet, and get in shape for the sports he loves to play. When he met his Arivale Coach, Ginger, Kirby immediately felt he found someone who could work the way he likes to work and understand the way he communicates.

“I initially resist change and need to talk through it,” he explains, “Ginger is great at recognizing that, being respectful and still finding ways to help me move forward.”

Kirby’s genetic results revealed he has a potentially negative genetic risk factor for inflammation, called the IL6 “C” allele. His saliva test confirmed that his inflammation markers were high, and his Arivale Coach suggested they prioritize addressing this first.

Kirby and Coach Ginger focused on what lifestyle factors—specifically dietary—may be influencing the inflammation. Together, they made a plan to slowly make dietary adjustments to improve his inflammatory response.

Kirby explains that before he began his Arivale journey, he knew his diet wasn’t perfect. But for him, knowing this didn’t change anything. Kirby said it took something other than knowing it wasn’t optimal to finally begin making significant changes. It was about recognizing, “That it’s OK to eliminate some things and just watch others.”



In addition to making diet changes to improve his inflammatory response, Kirby made adjustments to help reach his weight loss goals. Kirby was able to slash his ice cream, cheese, red meat, and cured meat consumption. As he explains it, he began to see food as something that is good for his body—something that he can choose to enjoy—rather than something he is entitled to.

When Kirby began working with his Arivale Coach, he was initially uninterested in working on exercise, and Coach Ginger was respectful of that. But after he felt confident in sustaining the changes he had made to his diet, he decided to tackle exercise as well.

“I was able to start where I needed to start,” he says, adding that Ginger helped him set initial goals and then, slowly expand them.

Kirby is highly motivated and action-oriented. He’s always on the top of my FitBit list of ‘friends’ as far as getting in steps daily. We have to keep adjusting his physical activity goals because he is so committed. It is a joy working with him!

Now, Kirby exercises six days a week and is constantly adjusting his activity time and distance to keep himself challenged and motivated. Since joining Arivale, Kirby has slowly and steadily lost more weight than he ever thought he could.

Although only a few months ago Kirby couldn’t have imagined exercising regularly, he now feels strange if he doesn’t exercise.

Kirby’s excited to rediscover activities he used to love—like playing sports or maybe even getting into competitive runs.
